We headed inland towards Mullingar and were amazed by how many more trees there were than on the coast. On the way we stopped at a museum on the last 100 years of history in rural Ireland including tools from all the occupations in a community, most of which have now been mechanically replaced. It was a real treat. Maeve, Paul and Alfie were so welcoming and took us to Catherines local pub Canton Caseys, which was busy even though it was a Sunday night. The following day we met up with some of her cousins and visited her Uncle Todds farm. Unfortunately it was pouring with rain and we didn't see the fairy castles Liam had told me about. Rita, a childhood friend of Catherines, was extremely generous with her time, taking us to interesting spots around town she remembered were important when they eye growing up in Mullingar.
