India, Europe and Africa 2016

The biggest shock arriving in London was the temperature. Transitioning from 40 to 4 degrees turned out to be a major challenge for the thermostats, and we soon forgot about how unpleasant it was to sweat for 20 hours a day. The best part about arriving in London was seeing Megan, and second to that, having unlimited access to normal tea, fresh vegetables, boiled eggs on toast, and peanut butter. To top it off, Megan took us to restaurant where three quarters of the menu was steak, breaking our vegetarian stint in the most dramatic way possible. I think Liam fell in love with London on the spot. We spent 3 days visiting museums and historical sites around the city, and made it to a mass at Westminster Abbey. The Natural History museum was always going to be a highlight- the dinosaur and evolution sections were unbelievable, and visiting the British museum was very interesting. It was remarkable, though not my proudest moment of being three eighths english. The hoards of historical artefacts they have from areas they colonised at different times around the world, are unashamedly displayed as if they belonged on British soil all along. As one man said to us- there's no need to visit Egypt after you've been to the British museum. The only consolation is that they’re all being well looked after- the artefacts that is.

We both concluded that we could have spent a lot more time in London and it would take a long time to run out of things to do. Maybe having an unfinished list will give us a reason to go back one day..
