Haha, this season is amusingly appropriate, since Nick and Geoff came to visit Kyoto this week, and we certainly Gaishin-Smashed a couple of experiences.

Haha, this season is amusingly appropriate, since Nick and Geoff came to visit Kyoto this week, and we certainly Gaishin-Smashed a couple of experiences.
I have absolutely zero photos of this week for some odd reason. I guess I preferred to enjoy my time as it happened rather than to
selfie everything.
But that can really be said of me all the time, so I dunno.
Nick came as his annual birthday Hanami session, and I finally got to enjoy Hanami with Nick. Which meant I finally got to do all the dumb tourist shit I've not been able to do this entire time I've been in Kyoto. Like, rent kimono for the day and walk around town looking like we belong (sorta)! We did that and got bento and headed to the philosopher's path to sit under the Sakura and enjoy our Bento. There weren't any good designated spots for sitting and eating along that path, but we made do. I believe Nick has photos of us looking cute in kimono somewhere.
I took them to the Hirano shrine for its Hanami setup, which might have been the only one we ended up going to. We went up to Arashiyama, but the Sakura there weren't nearly as good and there didn't seem to be any Yatai setup for food and drinks, at least not along the main stretches. Oh well, we ate cute bento and enjoyed nature as one must in Japan.
We also went to the Ninja restaurant. I have wanted to go the stupid Ninja restaurant for months, but really had no one to drag with me, so I was ecstatic when Nick and Geoff agreed to go. It was all-you-can-eat hot pot, and boy did we eat. It was cheesy and dumb and so fun.
We also took Geoff to see his first ever (and maybe last ever?) Takarazuka show. It was an experience. We ate bento.
I ate a crap tonne of bento that week. This would continue for the remainder of the month, as I had to buy bento/onigiri to feed myself during all the brief intermissions at the live theatre productions I went to see. I got fat, stopped fitting into my pants, and now I'm trying to eat as few carbs as I can.
