Day 6: Tuesday (part 2)

Bahir Dar, 01.07.2020

Entry 1
During our short layover in Addis, Dr. Abegaz pointed out a woman who was apparently a famous actress/singer. It's kind of cool to see their celebrities just hanging out like normal people.

Entry 2
Trevion and Dominika switched seats for this plane ride so we weren't completely squished together. Dominika isn't feeling great, which sucks...

Entry 3
We were picked up at the airport by a minibus from the hotel and taken to the Addis Amba Hotel. The rooms seem really nice. We each got our own, which was kind of nice. The beds have mosquito nets, which is probably indicative of how my night is going to go. The only thing I'm really concerned about is that there's no curtain in the shower. I'm mildly terrified I'm going to flood the bathroom with the way it's set up.

Entry 4
We met Dr. Jordanus at lunch and found out he'll be accompanying us on our excursions today. He seems nice enough. I think Dr. Abegaz brought him around for Dominika.

Entry 5
We walked to Lake Tana to go on a boat ride and to see the start of the Blue Nile. The lake itself is really choppy with waves, but the Nile is completely still. We saw a hippo (!!) who definitely seemed to be playing hide and seek with us. He'd pop up for a few seconds, blow some mist from his nose, then dip under again. It was kind of like a game trying to get pictures, but I managed it! Dr. Abegaz also said he saw a crocodile, but the rest of us missed it. It was a blast!

Entry 6
We got off the boat at a local fish restaurant that apparently serves the best fish in town. Trevion and I didn't eat because we're both allergic. Thankfully, I really wasn't hungry anyway.

Entry 7
Dominika, Ashley, and I went to a cultural house with Dr. Abegaz and Dr. Jordanus. It was really cool, and all three of us ended up dancing with some of the dancers when they came around the edges of the room. We learned that Dominika can dance. The only embarrassing part of the night is that it was recorded. But we got Dr. Abegaz to dance too so that's something!

Entry 8
So...I think I may have flooded the bathroom? I don't know? There's water literally everywhere. Is this normal??? Oh well.
