My diary

While in Paris, all my challenges fell in the shadows of the beauty of the city. In Laval, I am energized by the prospects of processing all I have seen and responding to it through art. I love the simplicity of life here. We wake up early, walk to the bakery, buy breakfast and lunch, walk to work, work, walk home, eat dinner, rest or work on homework, and then go to sleep early. At this point in the trip, I am enjoying the routine. It is not without its sorrow, however. I miss being in a big city that is waiting to be explored. There is always a distant feeling that I am missing out on experiences in Paris. It is hard to think I am in Europe but unable to enjoy it as much in this small town. Laval is simple and plain, ideal for getting work done indoors. I do enjoy the internship!

There have been minor challenges which at my healthiest state are reasons to be appreciative of little things I often overlook. These include: not having a refrigerator (having to throw away any leftovers), no means of cooking, no access to laundry, no easy access to cleaning equipment (broom, vacuum, etc.), walking everywhere, having a shower with no temperature regulation and that turns off every 5 seconds. I enjoy figuring out how to maneuver through these obstacles, such as washing clothes by hand, using the fridge at work, etc. I am thankful for my best friend Brittany who makes any experience hilarious and memorable. I am enjoying the time to spend away from the rush of the world and in isolation and reflection. I am happy that my gratitude is renewed on a daily basis for what I am gifted with in the States. The Lord is steadfast.
