I had an air of confidence about me this morning walking out of Moratinos and I'm not sure where it came from, maybe I had just gotten used to waking in the dark for at least an hour before being able to see what was around me. This morning was different tho as I walked along suddenly I looked up and the sky was just sparkling with stars, perhaps they had been there every morning but I was to focused on the path ahead to look up and notice them. It was just beautiful then from the corner of my eye I spotted a shooting star which then made my mind wonder to things such as 'well what if one day the sun decides to fall out of the sky' and ' how did we all come to be here'?
I know what your thinking, that's all a bit intense for that hour of the morning but that's just what happens when you're totally switched off to daily life. You're not thinking of things you have to get done during the day or what you can quickly tick off the list whist on your lunch break at work. Your mind is free and open and you're forced to look inward.
I was entering into the second town for today Sahagún it was much bigger then other ones I'd normally pass at that hour, but I was so happy when I came across a café that was open! I ordered a large coffee with a croissant and a pain au chocolate, the steam was still rising from them as they were that fresh out of the oven. I felt like a king sitting there enjoying them both and sipping on my coffee I wanted it to last for longer as I knew I had a long 10km stretch ahead of me with nothing on it just the long open road. I grabbed my pack adjusted the straps and off I headed!
As I got a little further out of the town I could here the church bells ring in the back ground and was glad to have gotten in and out before the crowds filled the streets. It was a nice walk along an old road but you could see the motorway not to far away, so it felt like you were close to something.
Suddenly I was approaching a church and I could see a man outside it pacing slowly up and down, I thought to myself, I can't be here already! So I stopped and read the sign of the church and realised I had reached Bercianos del real Camino, I couldn't believe it as it was only 9:30am. I walked up to the man at the church and asked him to stamp my passport. It was then I decided if sit for half an hour somewhere and put my feet up and walk on another 7.4km to the next town El Burgo Ranero, by doing so it would mean that tomorrow I could smash out 37km and arrive in León a day earlier then I had hoped.
I arrived at the hostel but couldn't check in until 12:30 so I sat took my boots off and had a glass of wine. I had a quick facetime with my beautiful friend Ger, was good to see her face and hear her voice she's always such a burst of positive energy. Finally I checked into the room and lay on the bed and slept for about two hours, I didn't want to get up but I knew I had to get dinner and if I stayed in bed id be awake all night. So up I got had a shower and walked down around the village just to get a feel for where I was headed in the morning as its always hard to make the arrows out in the dark of the night and I was planning on leaving even earlier tomorrow, like 4:45am!
As i made my way way back to the hostel to sit and have dinner I was just so happy and relaxed, it really had been a beautiful day. As I sat and had a wine waiting for dinner to start(most places didn't started till 7pm) I was joined by the Irish couple I had met the night before. It was so lovely to sit and break bread with them again, they were such genuine down to earth people and was so grateful that our paths had crossed. I knew I more then likely wouldn't see them tomorrow as I was going smash out nearly two days in one and I knew they weren't going that far. We said goodnight and wished one another well on the rest of the walk, but I mean who knows what will happen our paths may cross again. I'm going to bed tonight with a huge smile on my face, today was just perfect ????
