I did not want to get up this morning I must have snoozed the alarm about four times, I finally got up out of bed around 5am.
Morning ritual as usual dress feet then dress myself lol as I left and started out on my walk I couldn't see a single sole anywhere. My eyes began to play tricks on me, I would think that I could see something up ahead like a dog or a person and it would turn out to be a tree or nothing at all! I always love that part of the morning when the sun is just starting to hit the surface as I can then relax and power on with confidence as i can now see the arrows clearly.
I have to tell you the whole way to the first town Frómista I was having a constant battle with myself in my head as I knew there was a train station there and I was just in one of those moods that I would have just jumped on it and went to wherever it would take me! I had decided walking into town if it was open I'd enquire about the trains but if it was closed I would take it as a sign that I was well capable of walking today. Low and behold it was closed so I walked on and grabbed some coffee. Next thing I was flying it, no pains no nothing was just flying along, before i knew it I had come to the third town it was just a very small place with a big hostel but I had said I'd stop there as the next town wasn't for another 10km! So I stopped picked up some water and a chocolate muffin, ya know just incase I needed a sugar hit at some point along the way ?? it was all very hippy trippy there, lots of stoners walking around high on life or something anyway lol
I was happy to get back on the road again and continue on, I knew I'd be there in no time at all.
When I reached Villalcázar I turned and went into the town which I hadn't planes to do but I really had to use a bathroom! In the end tho I was quite happy I did stop off as the Cathedral there was just amazing, Santa María la Blanca was a the name of it so I decided to took a quick tour of it for €1 and had my passport stamped.
The last 5.7km kinda dragged but I just tried not to think about it to much. There was a few times during that last section where I thought I could feel the tingle of another blister surfacing so I was praying to whoever would listen not to let it happen! Then as always I spotted the steeple of the church and couldn't help but smile as I knew I was nearly there. As I arrived into the town it was quite lively people rushing around and they just seemed to be happy, then I realised it was Saturday and I had reached Carrión de los Condes before siesta time so ev everything was still open.
I walked and found the hostel i had been looking at and they had space and even better for €10 I could get a single room with a bathroom so I was like 'eh hell Ye' I got into the room dropped the bad stripped off and straight into the shower, it was pure bliss. I got ready and went out to walk around the town, I sat had and had a lovely lunch in the square with the sun beating down me. As I walked back to the hostel for a rest a decided to stop for a coffee, and sat outside. An old man came out and started talking to me I tried to explain to him that I didn't speak Spanish only English and he laughed but continued to sit and join me. He spoke for maybe 15 minutes on and off when he laughed I laughed and if he shook his head I would do the same, even tho I had no idea what he was saying i felt like he was telling me a story it was actually quite lovely to just sit and listen. Perhaps he was lonely and didn't have anyone else to talk to but I was more then happy to be an ear for him, he actually reminded me of my grandad perhaps that's why I sat patiently with him. After he was finished we both shook hands and bid each other good day.
As I walked back to the hostel I couldn't help but think how nice it was to sit and listen to someone even tho I didn't understand a word. I went back to have a power nap for a while and slept for about an hour. When I woke it was nearly dinner time, so I walked around and found where the supermarket was and what time it was open till so I could get dinner and then pick up some stuff for tomorrow's walk as it would be Sunday and i made that mistake last week and couldn't get anything as everywhere was closed.
Dinner wasn't that great tonight but I was still pretty full from lunch so i won't complain. Just got back to the hostel and going to turn in as tomorrow is going to be a long day with not a lot of stops I think there is a stretch at one point of the track that goes for 17km with no pitstops so should be fun! *376.9km down *413.1km left till Santiago
