Lining up for David

Florence, 05.30.2017

Another burner of a day. Didn't get up until after eight so we arrived at the Galleria dell'Accademia until 10:15. Bad mistake! Stood in line for an hour 45 to get in. This place has the original Michelangelo Sculpture of "David". An absolutely remarkably well done sculpture. The rest of the place had not a lot of interesting stuff, but the David sculpture was worth the wait. We spent about an hour and then went to an outdoor leather market. Katelyn was on the hunt for a bag or something. Didn't find what she wanted, which seems to be typical of women shoppers nowadays. Had pizza for lunch and then off to the "Ponte Vecchio" (I think Ponte means bridge). Old bridge that is 3 stories high with jewellery shops and other high end stores. Very old place and quite interesting. Had to move to another Airbnb tonight so walked back and packed our stuff. Took us about 40 minutes to backpack to our new home. Kind of a pain, but we will plan differently next time. Went to the Piazza Michelangelo for the sunset. This was the spot we were headed to when I hit the car with my bike! Very interesting to look over Florence and see all the ancient domes

sticking up. Makes you feel small and insignificant. Nice night sitting up top just watching the day end. Might be the best place in Florence!
