Perogies in Poland....

Krakow, 06.29.2017

Took a long train ride from Prague to Krakow yesterday. We just flew through the Czech Republic, but when we got to Poland the train slowed to a crawl. 7 and 1/2 hour trip that was quite pleasant for the most part. The countryside seemed very similar to where I grew up. Poplar trees and rolling hilly countryside. Found our AirBnb and headed for something to eat. Got a takeout pizza and beer from a place close by and we spent the evening eating pizza and watching Netflix movies! Similar to home I guess. Slept late, cold pizza for breakfast and out to the city centre in Krakow to see what was up. Seems the theme in all these old European cities is an old town with a castle, number of churches, city wall, and a Jewish quarter. So we

spent the day walking around the city centre taking in all the interesting sites. Wanted to get most of it in as we are going to the Auschwitz site tomorrow for the day and then it is supposed to rain the day after. Krakow has a really nice town square that originates in the 1300's. Lots of off the wall decadent churches and a nice palace. The Jewish Quarter was as expected. Humble place with no flash. Synagogue's were not over done but functionable. Didn't spend much time in the Jewish Quarter as tomorrow will be a whole day on the tragedy of Poland's Jewish population from World War II. Good day was finished with some Polish perogies and samosas. Very tasty and welcome for a tired couple of travellers. Tomorrow will be a long sad day!
