Few days of Cool

Koh Mak, Thailand, 12.27.2017

Today is the 27th of December. It has been cool and rainy for the second day in a row. Supposed to be the last day like this for a while, so I will get back into a normal beach routine tomorrow.
Christmas Eve was fun. We had an awesome meal and then we went up the hill to the Cafe Del Mak bar and had a couple of beers. Was fun but not a lot of people there. We stayed for a couple hours and then Yasmin and I went home while the other 3 that we were with headed to another place. Melanie had gone home earlier from the bar. In reality this was not my ideal Christmas Eve. My ideal day is at home with my girls enjoying the holiday season, but for the first time I wasn’t there. Kind of a hollow feeling.
Got up early on Christmas Day to say goodbye to Melanie as she was off to Bangkok and eventually home. Another friend that I will likely not see again, but it was fun and she provided me with a lot of laughs. After she left I went back to my room and slept for a little longer. Received a YouTube video from the girls for Christmas which really helped to pick up my spirits. Had a video chat with them as it was still Christmas Eve at home and they were over at their mothers getting ready for Christmas Day. Everyone was happy and excited, but I didn’t feel the same way. Christmas was not what it usually is and I was the one left out this time. Only one person to blame for that! The day was quite hot and I spent the day swimming and tanning. As darkness came on the weather was starting to change. You could smell the moisture in the air. Went to a Christmas party at the Bamboo Hideaway restaurant, but only stayed for a couple of hours. Before we got back it had started to rain. Sat at one of the guys bungalows and had a last beer with Yasmin as she is off on the bus to Cambodia early in the a.m. Won’t be up to see her off. Went to bed thinking I need to find some new friends as this gang is dwindling fast.
Boxing Day I awoke to the rain. It pretty much poured all night and the morning as well. Didn’t get out of bed until about 10 and went to the restaurant to have breakfast with a Frank. It was quite cool and I had to put my sweatshirt on to stay warm. I know, life is tough, but here it doesn’t get that cold usually. Spent the day curled up on my veranda reading and learning Spanish. Was a nice relaxing day. I ate supper around 7 and was in bed watching Netflix by 8:30. The internet went down by 9:30 so I just bundled up and went to sleep. Awoke later to a lot of laughing and partying going on in the restaurant. Sounds like a new crowd has arrived. Whom will I get to know and spend time with out of this group?
Got up to a brighter morning on the 27th but still raining a bit. Spent the day reading, learning Spanish, and doing some research on the next phase of my journey. Will start travelling again in 2 weeks, but haven’t formulated the plan yet. Need to get my head back into the travel mode as time seems to fly even though I am doing so little!
