Jamille & Sacha's Americas trip

Tourist season being over, we were able to snag a cheapish villa right on the beachfront in Cancun. Apart from a housekeeper, Jamille and I had the run of the charming villa to ourselves. Our patch of the beach offered uninterrupted views and we could see very few signs of life on either side. We visited the supermarket and bought enough food and drinks to allow us to do sweet fa beachside for the next 4 days.

On the first night, I sat on the beach watching the sun set and noticed birds of prey circling over the ocean in front of me and occasionally swooping down to the water. Eventually, I got curious and wandered over to the water’s edge. It was then I realised that bay turtles were hatching from the sand and fighting their way over barriers of seaweed to get to the water. There must have been nearly a 100 of them. It was tempting to help a couple of the little guys who kept falling back down in their endeavours to climb over the seaweed but they all made it in the end. We could only hope that some made it all the way out to deep sea before being picked off by the birds or other prey.

The next few days passed in a happy, relaxing haze in the sun planning our next adventures in Cuba.
