After sweeping every conceivable floor and sweepable surface in and around the house, we were ready to hand over to the first set of house and dog sitters. Simon and Justine have flown down from Darwin to look after things at home and get dragged around the neighbourhoods every morning by Lily, who sensing we were about to abandon her for 2 months made friends with her new humans very quickly. At Broome check-in we discover our suitcases are over by a combined 5kg. We are only permitted 13kg each with our luggage transfers across the Le Puy Camino. This will require some careful re-distribution before we check-in for the international leg tomorrow night.
On arrival into Perth, we're picked up by Robyn's brother Grant and taken
to meet Robyn's niece's newly minted twins Aliaya and Bailey just 9 weeks old. Robyn falls into the role of Grand-Aunty and within minutes is on the couch holding Aliaya. Before they were born, they were referred to as twin A and twin B on the ultrasounds, hence Aliaya is twin A and Bailey is twin B, and at 9 weeks A&B were gifted pearl anklets from Broome.
From the twins we head to see Mark and Teresa, our last catch up was post the Abrolhos Long Table Lunch in April. Our final destination for the day was Bayswater to the "good-on-ya-bro" AirBnB and a quick meal at the Punjab in Maylands with other bro Stevo, then its an early night.
The morning of Charlie's birthday (King's Birthday Public Holiday in WA) we go on a 10km walk, down to the Bayswater dog park, then through the Baigup Wetlands along the river to Peninsula Farm Cafe. Its a perfect spring day in Perth and much the same temperature and weather as we are expecting along the Le Puy Camino in just a few days time. In the evening the Maher boys caught up at the AirBnB for a few drinks an the annual siblings photo (albeit without the Matriarch Elizabeth).
Our AirBnB host drops us down at the Melthan train station and its $7 ($3.50 each) train fare and a 10-minute ride to the International airport. Its about another 15 minutes to check in and get through customs before hitting the Aspire Lounge. A couple of G&Ts, some Tempus 2 bubbles, and we're ready to fly.
