Grace's Holiday

After visiting the Forest of Dean we went to Beechcroft Farm in the Peak District. On the way there stopped at Bolsover Castle to see dancing horses. He only used the castle for his horses. The dancing horses were amazing. He reared up and we got to pat him. Then we went to Mr Darcy's House (Chatsworth House) because mum is in love with him from the movie "Pride and Prejudice". He had a really big mansion just for his horses too but his place was even bigger. There were also farm animals you could visit and pat. It was a really good day.

The next morning we rode our bikes to the Bakewell markets and I bought a really beautiful brooch. Afterwards, we rode along a train track and it was very long - 12 kms. They got rid of the trains in 1968 but there were a few tunnels that were really cold.

Our next stop was Windemere in the Lakes District. I spent the afternoon fishing with some kids on the lake and caught three small fish but they all died, but one. Lake Windemere was really cold but sunny.

Mum and dad made me do another long bike ride to Beatrix Potter's house. She used to write books about Peter Rabbit. Normally girls didn't have jobs back then. After we did a 6 km walk to Hawkeshead we had a really nice lunch. The walk went through farms and forests and was pretty. At lunch we met a boy from Perth, Australia who said it was the nicest three days they have had there all year. On the ferry crossing the lake, we saw jets fly over. They went fast and were really

On our last day of camper vanning we went to Warwick Castle. We saw a jousting and birds of prey show. Two French men came in and tried to take over the castle, so they challenged them to a jousting contest. This involved picking up severed heads while cantering on their horses. I saw a jousting stick collapse and explode when it hit the other man's armour. But the good guys won. In the bird show an owl, Ernie, caught and swallowed a squirrel in front of everyone and had his tail sticking out of his mouth.

That afternoon we went to Stratford-Upon-Avon and it is known for William Shakespeare. William Shakespeare is known for his poetry and plays. He worked in a place called Lord Chamberlain's Men, and they were very famous for their acts and plays. He even played for a King and Queen. He added over 3,000 words to the English language. His name "William Shakespeare" spells out "I am a weakish speller".

Tomorrow we are going to Germany for three weeks. There is a map of my journey so far.
