Southeast Asia Post Grad Trip

Today marked the last day in chaing Mai for us, which meant it was time to travel to Siem reap to begin the 2nd leg of our journey across south east Asia. Boarding our flights seemed like a relatively easy thing to do especially given that we had managed to survive in Thailand for a few days without speaking a word of Thai, but our good luck ran out. What happened at the airport can only be described as complete chaos as each and everyone of us managed to bungle our flights in one way or another. From Pelz only having a ticket for the first flight to Bangkok, to all of us trying to hide our luggage from the air Asia staff, to Theo and mengs somehow skipping immigration and then having to go through immigration/security 20 min before it was time to board- we were all taking Ls right and left. Despite all this everyone made it onto the flight!

Once we touched down I Siem reap we headed to the War Museum where we learned about the brutal civil war that ravaged Cambodia until the late 90s. Our guide there was a 27 y/o Cambodian who had lived through part of the war and had lost most of his family in the conflict. He informed is of the historical background of the civil war and told us very personal stories of how the war affected him. It was a very somber and sobering experience but definitely necessary as if left us with a better understanding of the country.

Afterwards we decided to lighten the mood by going for a round of mini golf at a course that featured to scale replicas of the temples at agknor wat. This doubled as research for our visit to the actual temples.

Knowing we had a long day of touring the temples ahead of us we thought it would be best to grab a semi early dinner and head back to the hostel.
