“So you’re really not mad at me?” Ron asks for the 100th time.

“For the hundredth time, YES!” Chi answer, “You tried to separate us from our family and kill us!” I cough to edit my brother’s answer.

“But also as the Buddha said forgive others not because they deserve forgiveness , but because you deserve peace. So we will let this pass and we can be friendly cousins again.”

“Thank you so much Bubby Chang,” Ron’s face lights up with happiness, “I am so grateful for your forgiveness.” Chi rolls his eyes at him but it’s just a relief that we can return home to our parents. I can’t wait to share my new learning with the elders. Then a sudden gasp from Bubby Chi stops my track of thoughts.

“It’s Brianna! Over there! She’s cornered by a band of bandits!” Chi yells to me.

“Don’t rush over there! We didn’t come all this way to get to killed!” I yell back.

“Don’t worry, I’ll create a distraction.” He says and runs over to the cave where Brianna is.

Within moments I hear a painful cry, scared that it my own twin brother’s. Another cry goes out, someone saying that their comrade is dead from an impact to the head. And soon Chi and Brianna appear in front of us.

“I told you I could do it.” He says to me.

“I didn’t doubt you for a minute” I say.

“So will you stay Brianna? Will you come back to Dunhuang with us?” He almost pleads to her.

“Yes.” She says and we carry on our travels home.
