Visit To Sierra Leone

History-The name Sierra Leone comes from the Portuguese of the Lion Mountains, Serra de Leao. Pedro da Cintra was the first European to explore Sierra Leone. In 1961 Sierra Leone became independent country. In the early 2000's they had a civil war. Still in recovery today.

Demographics-The country of Sierra Leone has a population of 5,743,725. The life expectancy is about 57 years old. People born in Sierra Leone have the nationality of Sierra Leoneans. The major ethnic group in Sierra Leone is Temme 35% and Mende 31% of the population. The minor ethnic group in Sierra Leone is Limba 8%, Kono 5%, Kriole 2%, Mandingo 2%, and Loko 2% of the population. The official language in Sierra Leone is English, while the spoken languages are Mende, Temme, and Krio. The main religions in Sierra Leone are Muslim 60%, Christian 30%, and Indigenous Beliefs at 10% of the population. 35% of people 15 and older can read or write.

Geography-Sierra Leone has a tropical but hot climate. They have swamps , woody areas, and mountains. The country is smaller than the state of South Carolina.

Trip-I plan on going to Sierra Leone to celebrate Christmas and some of Boxing Day. Boxing Day is the opening of presents after Christmas. I also want to go sea diving since the temperature there is almost always in the 80's.
