San Francisco

Day 1 - Arrival and First day, 09.02.2018

Girl's Trip!

Mom and I set off on our adventures to San Francisco today. She turned ... years old and I wanted to spend some time away with her on this special birthday. Her birthday was in July, but with our busy schedule this year we thought that a trip in September would be the perfect time to get away to the West Coast.

We headed to the airport with Rick and got there in plenty of time to check in and head to the gate. We were able to upgrade our seats to

the Westjet Plus so today we are travelling in style!

It was a nice way to start our trip to be travelling first class. They really make you feel special up in the Plus seats. So after a few glasses of Prosecco, a light meal and a sweet treat, we arrived at San Francisco. Mom even indulged in drinking Prosecco. I'll have to remember that she likes the bubbly.

I hadn't prearranged our transportation from the Airport to our hotel but figured that we would check out our options when we got there. Once landing and getting our bearings we headed to level 3 and ordered a Shared Ride with Uber. The driver made 2 stops and there was plenty of room in the vehicle for 3 people. Marginally more than a bus ride but less than half the cost of a cab; it only took 30 mins to get to our hotel for a low price of $25 USD. Definitely the way to travel here. In speaking with one of the other passengers she mentioned that everyone in San Francisco does the Shared Ride option and that it is quick and easy way to get around.

Once we arrived to the hotel we were able to check in early and get settled in. We had the rest of the day to explore the area and check things out.

We are staying at the Hyatt Centric in Fisherman's Wharf. It is only 2 blocks from Pier 45 and all the restaurants and action of Fisherman's Wharf.

Great location and great value for the area.

Accommodations: Hyatt Centric Fisherman's Wharf $193 USD/night

Once we got settled in we headed down to the pier to check out the action. Being a long weekend the area was just humming with action. We headed over to Boudin's Bakery to enjoy some of the fresh sourdough of the area. Boudin Bakery is home to "The Original San Francisco Sourdough". They still bake their sourdough fresh every day using the same mother dough (150 years old) cultivated from a gold miner’s sourdough starter. They have a very interesting museum and self guided tour on the second floor. As you walk around you can watch the bakers in action. Very interesting.

After witnessing the baking in action we decided to buy a small sliced

loaf to enjoy on the patio and watch the people go by. It is so delicious that we only had 1/2 of the loaf left by the time we headed home.

San Francisco is one of my favourite USA cities. I think that we will have a ton of fun here for the week.
