Taverna El Conde: (Dr. Rosen and Martinez)
Nick is a wonderful owner that takes pride in his establishment. He is originally from Ireland and has a Dominican wife. The staff are lovely and provide great service. We enjoy each and every meal we have at El Conde. Here are some of our favourite "specials" thought the week.

Taco Tuesday (price per taco)
$95 Peso Fish Taco with honey chipolte mayo
$165 Peso Shrimp Taco
$95 Peso Pull pork or chicken taco
all tacos come with pico of sorts to complement the meat and
house slaw.

Fat Burger Thursday: All burgers are $295 pesos, including fries
Cheddar Bacon Beef Burger: cheddar, bacon, trickle (fried pickle on top)
Fish Burger: cajun spiced seabass, honey chipolte mayo
Chicken Burger: chicken breast, bacon, caesar salad

Sunday Roast Dinner: $595 Pesos
This sunday was roast lamb with yorshire pucks, roast potatoes and green beens. Absolutely wonderful!

El Rancho: (Dr Rosen)
A quaint little restaurant in the El Rancho Hotel. It is situated in a small garden area beside the pool. It feels like you are in a hidden oasis. Fantastic food, service and atmosphere. Definitely the best schnitzel in town! The speciality of El Rancho is the Schnitzel and Rouladen (Rouladen is only served on Saturday).

Schnitzel: $450 for mushroom sauce or $490 for peppercorn sauce
It is a toss up between the peppercorn, mushroom or blue cheese schnitzel. The come with fried potatoes, salad or french fries.

Roulanden: $450 pesos
Rouladen or Rinderrouladen is a German meat dish, usually consisting of bacon, onions, mustard and pickles wrapped in thinly sliced beef which is then cooked.

To top off the evening is a aperitif of "mama wanna", anise or crema de oro - gratis of course.

Ottimo Italian Restaurant: (Duarte and Martinez)
A wonderful little hidden gem of a restaurant in a quiet courtyard, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the busy Martinez road noise. A classic Italian menu with wonderful pastas and grilled meats.

All the pasta is home made and they bring a plate of bruschetta to start. A bit pricey for the pasta but definitely worth every bite.

Mofongo King: (Playa Sosua)
Our favourite beach location for real cappuccinos ($100 pesos) in the morning. The owner is very particular about the cleanliness and appearance of his restaurant. Not a spec of dust to be seen and definitely the cleanest bathroom I have ever used. Roxy knows all the staff members there and they welcome her in with open arms.

We tried the chicken mofongo the other day ($330 pesos). It was a large starchy-mash dish with chicken (other options are shrimp or vegetable), green plantains, dried corn, garlic and seasoning all heated and served in a large wooden bowl. It comes with a garlic butter dressing to add to the top. The four of us shared it and there was plenty for everyone. Mofongo is one of the traditional dominican meals - a true hit with everyone.

Germany Bar and Grill:
This restaurant is located on the highway, so it is a bit noisy. But the food is good and can accommodate large groups without any trouble. The serve a schnitzel that barely fits on the plate. All the other accompaniments are served on another plate. Definitely good bang for the buck. But the sauces at El Rancho are hard to beat.

They have an all-you-can-eat grill buffet every thursday for $450. Schnitzel, sausage, pork, chicken, and a ton of side dishes. Definitely bring your appetite!

Scandinavian Beach Bar and Grill: (Playa Sosua)
A great little beach restaurant owned by a fellow from Oslo, Norway. The restaurant changed hands in 2016 but the menu remained the same, as did the service.

Jalapeno Burger - jalapeno infused burger with cheese and all the fixings. $250 Pesos

Half rack of ribs with potato salad
