We saw castles in Scotland and Denmark, but Turku Castle was the castliest castle of them all. Huge with tons of rooms and an amazing history, with Renaissance and Medieval architecture. The castle is one of the oldest buildings still in use in Finland, with construction on the castle beginning around 1280. It was frequently under siege in power struggles with Sweden.

Costumes from a new movie, "The Girl King," about Queen Kristina of Sweden, were on display when we visited. Large portions of the movie were also filmed in the castle. After our visit, we said goodbye to Turku and headed to Helsinki.
