The next day we met Mike and Kirsti's daughter Tiina for lunch in Jyväskylä before heading to a few museums in Mänttä, an old paper mill city. First up was the Serlachius Museum, which had a couple of exhibits that were unique, to say the least.
One exhibit was called "Paper Devil" and was about a man named G. A. Serlachius, who started the paper mill in Mänttä. The exhibit was 10% history and 90% dramatic voice acting. The moral is that Serlachius was 100% insane.
Another exhibit started with a video about a major anthropological discovery that suggested Mänttä was the cradle of civilization and ended with a discussion of aliens. We left very confused but from what I can tell, it was supposed to be some sort of elaborate joke.
The other museum we visited was the Gösta Art Museum, which was once the Serlachius home. Highlights included a Monet haystack painting and some beautifully carved marble statues. We avoided the modern art museum because modern art is frankly terrible.
