Study Abroad 2015

Continuing on, we drove and drove and drove through the rest of Hungary, the mountains of Romania (with a quick rest stop at Andrei's friend Veronika's house), and finally arrived in Tintareni, Moldova the morning of August 21st. Andrei's parents and youngest brother warmly welcomed us with a hug, a kiss, and delicious food straight from the garden. I even had a whole room for myself during our 6-day stay!

The Iachim family was a blessing and example to me. They are a very godly family who works hard and enjoys every moment together. The hangout spot was often the kitchen where we would munch on fresh grapes from the garden. Their family is as follows: Petru (dad), Elena (mom), George (28 and lives in Paris) Andrei (26 and lives in Paris), Paul (24 and lives in Paris), Cristi (16), Petrika (15).

We took several trips to Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. We walked around town to various little shops, visited the park at night, and even went to Megalopolis Mall for dinner and bowling with friends.

One of the biggest highlights of the trip was visiting loved ones in the north of Moldova. I got to visit with the families of my best friends Alina and Veronica who recently moved to the U.S. We were welcomed at each home with plenty of food, conversation, music, and warm hospitality. At the Dedescu home we had a lovely lunch visit with Angela, Ana, and Daniel. Then, at Tatiana Snegur's home we had lunch #2 and played with their adorable kids! Next, at the Breguta home we spent time with Silvia and Valerica, as well as Dana

Bodarev and Viorel and Viorica Neagu. After a huge Moldovan meal, we were treated to guitar and vocals by Valerica and Dana--what lovely hymns they sang! In the evening we had a Bible study with these families and some more dear ones who were simply inspiring in their devotedness to God and joyful spirit.

My visit in Moldova made me truly appreciate how blessed I am to have been born in the U.S. After seeing how hard people must work just to survive and the somewhat abandoned areas of Moldova, I only have more and more respect for those who continue to seek the good in every situation. "And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up." Galations 6:9.
