The Smith's USA Trip

It was back to the animals today with a visit to the San Diego Safari Park.
This was about a half hour to 45 minute drive away and it was pretty hot. We finally got to see a live armadillo! She was quite small in comparison to the majority we'd seen dead on the road. The keeper said that she was the second smallest species of armadillo.
The park was good to wander around though more confusing to follow than the zoo's paths.
There were lots of extra options to take around the park for cart and caravan safaris but they were quite expensive and unfortunately Kaine was also too young for most of them. We did find the balloon safari though, a hot air balloon which lifts you 400 feet into the air to give you a birds eye of the park. As much as I don't like heights it was a great way to see the size of the park.
Some of the best experiences in the park were; the lemur walk - the boys and I went in for a look and one of the lemurs wandered out onto the path and sat right next to the boys. Very cool to be that close to a lemur. We also got to see another baby gorilla (this one looked a little older than the one at the zoo) and whilst on the tram tour around the big animals paddocks, we got to see a baby wildebeest less than an hour old.
A good day though we were all pretty hot and tired by the time we got back to the hotel.
