I talk about writing routines quite a lot with my students.
When do you plan a regular writing moment in your week, and how can you fit writing habits into your life?
It is also a topic my November crew and I shared when we were settling in. Some of us are more productive in the mornings, while others thrive at night. But when you feel sleepy, can you not use that time for brainstorming or sketching new ideas? You also need time to revise, research, and set up schedules. How do you spread that nicely across your days?
My routine has been fluctuating as I am experimenting and adapting to the household flow while doing so.
For now, I get up at 7 am and have an hour to eat, shower and dress. Then, I have about an hour to walk, go into town, get fresh bread at the bakery, and take photos while slowly, ideas for my pieces emerge.
9 am is my cue to get 'ass on seat and fingers on keys'.
I usually work until noon. (Some snack breaks and social media visits might be happening, but there's no need to highlight my bad habits, is there?)
The afternoons alternate. I have been going on fantastic hikes with Marcia; with the backdrop of an impressive ridge, we walk through woods, climb steep pathways and past olive groves while we talk shop. As we are both working on short stories and love reading, there is plenty to discuss.
When I’m back, I work on my stories lightly, and the early evening has become my time to write this blog.
We dine communally at a large table. Fifteen people altogether, when we don't have people visiting. Two of the artists in residence are chefs, and many others have concocted impressive dinners so far.
As we eat late, I fill up my hot water bottle after dinner and hit my cosy cama.
