Dresden was absolutely demolished during World War II. The United States and British Air Forces joined together to obliterate what they deemed was a rail and communication hub for their German enemies. There were over 25,000 casualties during four air raids of the city. These history lessons of World Wars really just felt like stories until you go and you see first hand what had to be redone, rebuilt. It puts war into a very real and very scary perspective.
It is now (and I'm sure once was) a beautiful city situated on the Elbe river. I am a sucker for any living space near water. I always feel better by the water. Like every city we've visited so far, this is a center for the arts, music and architecture. Although... no mention of Mozart on this tour so far!
After sightseeing through Dresden, we were able to stop at the Volkswagen museum. And you know what? Volkswagen and Ducati are in the same family, so my prediction was that this museum would too, be amazing! And it was!
I'm not a huge "car" fan... I don't even have my permit yet! (I guess that's why I loved the bike tour so much... I'm a pro at that!) . But it was really cool to see these "famous" cars. From the original "Beetle", so the first golf convertibles. I love to see where we came from to where we're going. The advancements in technology and aerodynamics can be seen first hand and side by side here.
