I thought I'd seen the badlands formations in Theodore Roosevelt but I was wrong! These ones are huge! Jagged, colorful, rugged, and strange. I drove in this morning and got the last campsite here. The solar eclipse is tomorrow morning, so I lucked out with a spot. I've been driving around and hiking, but the crowds are a bit much. It's also pretty hot, so I've been taking it easy.
It's so cool to be able to just wander around in the formations, you can go off trail as much as you want. I spent some time in the shade of a formation today reading my book. It's hard to describe these formations except that I imagine this is what Mars looks like. There is a fantastic prairie breeze that blows through which makes the heat more bearable.
