Ships log day 77

In Hong Kong, 21.03.2017

In Hong Kong cool and cloudy. Today we took a hop on and off bus around the city and can now say we have seen most of Hong Kong. The buildings here are truly enormous and they put Canary Wharf and London for sheer size colour and design to shame. In the evening we took a sunset cruise on a traditional Chinese Junk around the Harbour, we laid out on very comfortable beds on the open deck and were served with drinks for this 2 hour cruise, I could not wish for a better Birthday a very memorable experience as the wine and music flowed amongst all the bright lights of the huge buildings. On return to the ship a Chinese buffet on open deck for sail away. Every night they have a laser light show in the harbour on all the buildings which we also watched. Here comes the boring bit. In the middle of the 18 hundreds Britain legally sold 40,000 chests of Opium per year to the Chinese which we took from India this went on for about 60 years and gave the Chinese serious drug problems which made them easy for us to control as well as huge wealth, could be compared to the Columbian drug barons of today. Despite this the Hong Kong people seem to really like the English and wish not to be back in Chinese hands and preferred our democracy. Photos of our sunset Junk cruise and Birthday celebrations.
