6 Hours in Copenhagen + 36 Hours on a Boat

Copenhagen, 10.30.2016

A few weeks ago, a group of my friends booked a boat ride to Copenhagen that was inexplicably free, and this weekend, the trip actually happened!
We boarded the boat on Saturday afternoon around 4:00, and the fact that it was free began to make slightly more sense. We had two tiny rooms for 4 people in the bottom floor of the boat with fold out bunk beds, no window, and a space between the two sets of beds with exactly enough room for 1 person. But the time that we spent in those rooms was pretty much limited to the time we spent sleeping. The

rest of the time was spent hanging out on deck (chilly, but worth it), lounging in the hot tub/ sauna, wandering around the duty free shop and chatting. When the evening came, a bunch of us went to "The Columbus Club" where there was a live band playing and adorable children tearing up the dance floor.
When morning came, we had a leisurely breakfast buffet experience before docking in Copenhagen at 9:45.
What followed was a slightly manic walking sight seeing tour of the city. We had 6 hours and a lot we wanted to see! We saw the little mermaid, the fortress, the cathedral, the amusement park, the castle, the canals and Christiania (the free town in the middle of the city that abides by its own set of laws). I think we ended up walking about 12 miles over the course of the day. We did take some time to sit down and enjoy some delicious Danish pastries, but other wise we were on the go! It was a pretty strange way to travel and try to experience a

city, but the weather was beautiful and the company was great.
Our group included 3 Americans, and 1 Dutch girl, Scottish girl, English girl and Austrian girl. I learned 1 Dutch word (gzellig, which is pretty similar to the Norwegian words hygellig and koselig, which basically mean cozy/ nice) and a lot about Scottish culture. Cara (the scottish girl) is on a mission to get us all to eat haggis.
Another key point about this weekend is that daylight savings time began, which means that the sun is now setting at 4:30. WHAT EVEN!!! It did make watching the sunset from the boat on the way back much easier though, since we were able to get the watching the

boat leave the harbor and the watching the sun set experience from the top deck at the same time.
I got back to Oslo feeling pretty exhausted and like I need to go back to Copenhagen for longer than 6 hours some day.
