It gets dark so early this time of year

11.11.2016

I started in on my long run for the week at 3:00 in the afternoon, which seems like a very reasonable time. I had been dreaming about making a loop around this lake called "Maridalsvannet" that I often do out and backs to, and based on the maps I looked at, it seemed very possible.
It turned out, however, that the way to get around the lake was not on a real road, but on a trail that was somewhat confusing to find. My phone brought me into the middle of a farm, as I was wandering around looking for the trail, I could see the farmer looking out his

window at me, probably wondering what this random girl was doing on his farm...whoops! I eventually did find the trail, which just so happened to be covered in snow, a lovely ski trail really.
At this point, the sun had almost completely set and I was still over 5 miles away from home. Once I got out of the woods, I decided to catch a bus back, since it was completely dark and I had been vaguely lost for a while.
Although it is not ideal to be running alone far from home after the sun has gone down, I experienced so much beauty!
The sunset (which happened around 3:45) was stunning, and the ski trails I ended up on had the most beautiful view of the lake and were flanked by beautiful pine trees and rocks. It felt very much like northern Minnesota.
Just more proof of the infinite potential for adventure when you get out and run around for a while!
