We have arrived, and the country looks like a post card. Its wooden buildings, and barefoot people look as if they are set many eras before us. Walking, we made it to our hotel, and I was able to room with my friend. The hotel rooms are different here though, their walls are thinner and their bed frames are made from thick bamboo. Their bathrooms also have toilets unlike our own back home.
For dinner, in accompaniment with our dinner of rice and garlic chicken, we were given a show. Women in bedazzled robes danced across stage, as the chimes kept their rhythm. Tambourines sounded, and so did the Caribbean influence of bongos. The show was great, and left us requesting an encore.
Later that night, as we laid in our low beds, we could still hear the sound of the chimes.

Today was so much fun! We went rafting along the Demerara river, and caught fish as we did. The fish were abundant, and plenty could be seen swimming underneath the waters. We guided our rafts to a smooth plateau where we had a picnic of goat cheese bagels, fruits, and chocolate.
While the parents talked, the kids took turns jumping from the plateau's edge and into the warm water below. I did it once, but never, EVER again.

Today, we boarded a sea plane which flew us to the city of Annai. Here, we spent the day at a rainforest reserve watching the prowls of jaguars, and the swinging of monkeys . The trees of the forest stood tall, and held all of the humidity within their leaves. Our pastor marveled at the site, amazed at the work of God's hands.
We ended up spending the night in Annai, sleeping on the grounds of the reserve in tents. Before we went to bed we had roasted beef, and stewed greens picked off of the reserve.

On our last day, here in Guyana, we had an early morning service at a river in the reserve. Our pastor spoke on beauty, and of the awe behind it. The sun came up just as we were ending our breakfast of crackers, cheese, and grapes. Shortly, we strode the banks of the reserve before being flown back to the main airport.
Our trip may have been short, but it was worth the while.
