Travels with Franky De La Cruz

For the past two weeks we’ve been in Baja California, staying with my dad and his wife Marina at their sweet pad on the edge of San Jose del Cabo. For the most part we have been lazy, knowing this was somewhat an interlude before returning home and pretty broke (finacially and physically!), we’ve been using it to reintegrate with society. After a few hot showers and cups of tea we are getting there, maybe! Baja is a place we’ve been together before and we had a great trip here post-Covid so it was nicely familiar. I had a board here so we took a few overnight trips in Dad’s SUV, sleeping on perfect beaches and surfing empty waves. Baja is an amazing place and we are lucky to have got to know it a little more. Some of the best beaches on the entire trip are right here and it’s a place we will always come back to with Dad living his best life out here. Tomorrow we leave en mass to Mexico City for the weekend, no doubt to make a few extra tales with Eduardo’s birthday, St Paddy’s day, lucha libre (Mexican wrestling) and the biggest pyramid ever made.

The Travels With Franky have been amazing. Quite simply the most fun we could have had and the most incredible way to see this part of the World. Costa Rica feels a lifetime ago but wow, we haven’t half given it a go! Impossible to pick a favourite place or country, they have all been wonderful and such different experience. Costa Rica is crazy expensive but nature at its best, Nicaragua a wild place of cowboys and volcanoes, El Salvador the most amazing people with a fresh new tourism scene and small enough to have seen so much of it, Guatemala one of the best cultural experiences of our

The Travels With Franky have been amazing. Quite simply the most fun we could have had and the most incredible way to see this part of the World. Costa Rica feels a lifetime ago but wow, we haven’t half given it a go! Impossible to pick a favourite place or country, they have all been wonderful and such different experience. travels ever and Mexico, well we all know how Mexico is… Crazy start to finish and everything in between! We are so grateful for the people we’ve met (mechanics especially) and experience shared, so thankful to Franky for allowing us to live on the road for next to nothing and in all his ‘breakdowns’ it was never really too bad considering he’s as old as we are. We’ve been living on the beach for months, learnt Spanish, surfed perfect waves most people only dream of, explored countless ancient cultures, summited active volcanoes more than once (seeing the Earth’s lava has blown our minds) and hiked through pristine rainforest, dense jungle and desert landscapes. We’ve lived out our dreams and spent so much time in each other’s pockets it’s bonkers we are still so close, but its made us closer and given us memories that will last a lifetime so we thank each other too.

Thanks you all for following this trip, its been so lovely to share this experience and I hope you’ve all been inspired throughout and laughed along the way. This is only half way so look out for the second phase! For now, we are still beach bums, but we are almost home, so see you in a bit. Adios amigos y muchísimas gracias!!
