Road Trip 2017

Today was the first day we allowed ourselves to sleep in, and it felt great! We got up and rented a car for the day to go into Dallas. We planned an historical day, and first took the girls to the George W. Bush Library & Museum. We didn’t actually go through the Museum. We just went to the bookshop which was still pretty cool to look through. We might go through another presidential library, so we didn’t want to burn the girls out with this one.

Our big outing today was to Dealey Plaza and the JFK museum there. The museum is located on the 6th floor of the Old Texas School Book Depository where Lee Harvey Oswald hid waiting to assassinate the president. We did the self-guided audio tour and it was very educational and emotional. The museum was very well done. We left with a somber but appreciative feeling for the things JFK stood for and still does today. After leaving the museum, we went outside to the spot where JFK was shot and killed. It’s actually marked on the road with a white X. Then, we drove our car along the same route that he did that day, and left the city.

On our way back to the RV park, we decided to stop at a local butcher, Rudolph’s Market, and get some real Texas steaks. We bought HUGE Texas-sized top sirloins to have that night, along with some filets and sausages to save for later on the trip. We led ourselves on a wild goose-chase to find a grocery store and finally landed at Albertson’s. We needed to pick up a few things because we were going to have company tonight!

Tom Holy, who used to work with Scott, visited us at our RV for dinner tonight. It was really fun catching up with him and hanging out. We went to bed a little late tonight, but it was worth it being able to visit with him.
