The Wizards Of Oz

One of the decisions we made very early on was that this trip would be divided up into lots of sections and today we moved on from Melbourne back to Sydney for a day at what has become our home. A little flat in Potts Point.

Smooth flight only marred by having to sit next to someone who took up a seat and a half. Not easy to turn to someone and say “I ‘m really sorry, and I know you’re clinically obese, but you really are making it impossible for me to breathe, let alone use my ipad.” I decided to sleep for most of the flight.

Heading back into the city on the train - one of Sydneys wonderful double decker trains, we change lines and Richard headed on to the next train with suitcase and the doors closed behind him. I was left standing on the platform watching him leave on the train. How many times have we seen it happen in London with couples dashing for the tube only to be separated in a “Sliding Doors” moment. Oh how we have laughed. Oh how I laughed as I stood alone on the platform this morning. No really, I did. Oh how I laughed! Perhaps it just didn’t show.

Back in the flat which seemed like coming home, we unpacked, only to pack a smaller case for our next two night trip away tomorrow.

On a whim, and before the trains separated us, I noticed that the show Cirque Stratosphere was playing at the Opera House tonight and we booked tickets.

An afternoon spent at an italian restaurant in the square basking in the afternoon sun and then a visit to the most wonderful whole foods supermarket, full of absolutely stunning fruit and veg to stock up on some breakfast for tomorrow.

After what has now become a little bit of a routine, which is the afternoon rest, we head down to the Opera House. The quayside is thronged with people and there is a real party atmosphere.

The show is great fun. Nothing one hasn’t seen before in terms of

circus acts, but well presented as a space race odyssey and a crowd pleaser.

The bridge and the quay look great in the moonlight and we wander home, happy and contented, but not so contented that we can’t manage a quick cheeseburger from McDonalds on the way.

Goodnight sport.
