Nenagh to Meath
Treated myself to the full Irish Breakfast with two bacon, two sausages, a fried egg, black and white pudding, mushrooms and tomatoes. Delicious! Siobhan is a former chef and her cooking shows it. The mushrooms were amazing! Fried in a hot pan with oil to where they begin to brown and get this delicious nutty flavor. Tavis liked them so much he got his own bowl.* The plan now is to go for a hike here near Nenagh called Clare Glens.
*Editor's Note - Siobhan let us know that she was known for her delicious scones. Although we were
fully., we still managed room to sample them. Truly amazing!
Claire Glens turned out to be a very pleasant, if muddy, hike. The river was running vigorously and the rain was a pleasant drizzle mainly filtered out by the overhanging forest. There were several waterfalls along the way and the water looked just like root beer as it flowed down the falls.
Our final destination on this leg of the trip was to a town called Trim in county Meath. The main feature of Trim is the castle, which was conveniently situated right across from our hotel (or visa versa given the relative ages of the two).
We had a fabulous dinner at the hotel restaurant - The Bailey. The staff was very warm and welcoming, especially when they were told we own a brewery. The manager, David, immediately checked out our website and decided he would love to try our Late Night Porter. We will have to try and send some over for him to try.
After dinner we went to explore Trim Castle. I knew it looked familiar from movies as it was used as a location in Braveheart and The Big Red One. The castle itself is very impressive. The battlements and walls with their arrow slits certainly made for an imposing visage. It used to have a moat that has been since filled in, although you can still see where it used to be. It was unfortunate that we
arrived too late to tour inside the walls, but we still got a good view on our walk around it.
