After such a long and treacherous voyage, we finally arrived at this beautiful city of Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztec Empire. This place was extraordinary, I am amazed at all these massive temples and structures that were so tall and it looked so unique. I couldn’t believe my eyes, but these structures were so colorful. The pyramids were painted a bright red and also a nice blue color. But the palaces were painted a very shinny white. As I was walking there were so many people in the streets! I was talking to someone that told me that Tenochtitlan is actually separated by four canals that surround the central area. I find that so fascinating because I can’t imagine how many people come here to see this place and for trade. People were selling all kinds of amazing things at the marketplace, like pottery, fabrics, and I had the best food there as well. Their jewelry was so luxurious, the person selling them told me it was made out of jade. The pottery was simple in design but served a purpose. I actually bought a little one to drink water out of and it did keep my water cool, which I did appreciate. My favorite was trying cacao! I’ve never tasted anything like it. It starts off a bit bitter, but the taste is just delicious to me! There is nothing better than street food. Something that I realized while I was walking and talking to the local people was that Tenochtitlan is has a couple of main temples, one that I am really excited to visit is Templo Mayor. I am hoping that tomorrow I have enough time to catch the ceremony. From what I heard from the locals that it is a must see attraction!
