Traveling in the Americas

Today was a bit out of my usual comfort zone, to say the least. I never have seen this before, but I fully respect these people and their culture. But I will say that it was difficult for me to watch. The locals yesterday informed me that today will be a grand ceremony at the Templo Mayor, which is the main temple of the Aztec Empire. This place is very sacred to the Aztec people. I was walking in there I had to stop and just be in awe of this beautiful temple. There was two stepped pyramids side by side on a huge platform and it was just massive. Both of the separate pyramids represented different gods, they were so big, I couldn’t even believe what I was looking at. There were so many people standing around waiting for the ceremony to start and there were so many people, everyone was very excited. Once it started there was high priest started to perform some kind of rituals to honor their gods, then I saw an actual human sacrifice. I wasn’t aware of what was really going on, but once the ceremony finished, I was able to speak with one of the locals about this. What they told me was they did human sacrifices because they wanted to please their gods. But usually, they said that they would give offerings like good and even animal sacrifices.
