Estonian Excitement......

Tallinn, 07.19.2017

It seems every place in Europe has an old town rebuilt or ancient ruins. Always really cool to go see. We have saved the best one for the end. Tallinn is known for the old town and number of intact buildings. Beautiful spot by the Baltic Sea doesn't hurt either. Lots of us tourists wandering around in this place. Spent all day in the old town just meandering until we got tired and hungry enough to rest. This place has a couple of different levels of old town which make it unique. They have a main castle area with a couple of churches on a higher mound with a large castle wall to protect it. The second level is a larger broader area with about 7 more churches and lots of old houses/shops. There is another protective wall with quite a few guard towers. All constructed early 1200's til 1400's. Of course, it has been beat up and repaired a number of times over the centuries. Difference with this city is it seems to have been left intact more than

most others. A lot of cities have had to rebuild because conquerors have destroyed what they created. Tallinn seems to have avoided that making it a real jewel to see and experience. Had a bite at a nice little restaurant and headed back to the room at about 5:30. Great day! Weather was around 20 degrees (been like that for a couple weeks). A little windy. Hopefully tomorrow is calm. We want to get a beach day or 2 in before Katelyn heads home.
