Bangkok, I think you've killed me

Bangkok, Thailand, 11.05.2016

Day 3
So after a full on few days traveling and sightseeing, today I decided to take it easy.

I had planned to sleep in until 10am, however there was a wedding going on in the hotel from 7am which I couldn’t resist sneaking into to photograph. After clearly gate crashing a wedding I grabbed a free tuk tuk from the hotel with a random girl I met in the foyer, called Sophie from Korea. That isn’t actually her real name, but I couldn’t

pronounce her real name so she told me to just call her Sophie. We both then headed towards the Grand Palace in Bangkok.

Now due to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej passing away only a few weeks ago, his body has been laid to rest here. Although it is open to the public now after the initial ceremonies, it isn’t advisable to go in and ‘sight see’ out of respect. So I decided against it. I’m sure i’ll visit Thailand again, which if the case, I’ll see it then. So instead I headed round the corner to Wat Pho.

Was NOT expecting this! This place was gorgeous! I have never seen architecture like it before and the amount of golden Buddha’s inside were simply stunning. This is also where the largest golden reclining Buddah is, and in the same room are wishing pots. 108 pots to be exact. What you do, is you buy a pot of coins and you work your way through the hall dropping a coin into each pot. As you drop a coin you make a wish. By the end of it, you have 108 wishes made. Most of my wishes were dedicated to people I know and love, and wished for you all to live happy, prosperous and healthy lives. For myself I wished for good health, the winning lottery numbers and a hot husband.

Half way through Wat Po, Sophie decided she really wanted to go to the Grand palace as she was flying out later that day, so I continued on my own and got snap happy as I do. I also bagged myself a free Thai head, shoulder and back massage which was a result! By the time I had finished Wat Po my headache was back in full swing and I was feeling really sick, so I started to head back to the hotel.

Ash - you were so right about the Taxi meter tricks they do and the tuk tuks over charging! Thanks so much for your advice on this, as the little f’ers were trying to charge me 200 BHT to just go round the corner back to my hotel! Now I know no different, but having been advised by many friends prior to my trip, I knew roughly what I should be paying. So there I was approaching various drivers and then telling them to do one and was clearly being a bit too vocal as I was then approached by two lads from Chilli. They too were looking to

head back to China town and asked me if I wanted to share a ride. Being the penny pincher I am, I agreed, however we could not find one single taxi driver willing to put on their meter, nor a tuk tuk for less than 200 BHT! Day light robbery!

So I suggested we walk or try the local public transport. Some locals helped me with which bus to catch, so on we three jumped onto a bus that probably should have been sold for scrap metal 10 years ago.

Wait for it......

The bus cost me only 9 BHT!
Ha! Screw you tuk tuk and rip off taxi drivers! In your lying faces!
I may be a tourist but I am not stupid. Sam: 1 - taxi bastards: 0.

By the time I got back, I felt really really terrible so had a quick nap to try and sleep it off. I then headed out for some food and half way through eating, thought I was going to throw up in the middle of the street! So here I am back at the hotel sat in my pants, writing my blog chillaxing. My body clearly isn’t happy as my gut is making the strangest of noises and I look and feel pregnant. Plus I want to smash my head against a wall. So relax I must, as I want to make sure I enjoy the next part of my trip as I head off for Krabi tomorrow. Hopefully I feel better by the time Jon Wilson arrives tonight!

Talking of meeting people, it seems Facebook has yet again come through for me. I received a message from an old friend from university today who I haven’t seen in years - Ryan Crabb. Turns out he has seen my fb posts and he too is in Thailand and only left Bangkok yesterday! Sods law!

BUT fate is in our favour as we are both going to be in Krabi tomorrow! What are the odds?! So looks like i’m getting pissed tomorrow on a beach with a very old friend! Am very much looking forward to having a good catch up over several drinks! Haha

Right nap time.
Catch you guys later xx
