Paris France

The Lourve is too big to walk around in one day. Honestly, it might be too big to walk around in one week. The sheer size of the Louvre is intimidating enough, but when I walked in for the first time I lost all of my words. Statues greeted me right off, row after row of gleaming marble. One of these statues caught me and my friends eyes. We instantly all gathered around it and shoved my phone into someone's hands. "Take a picture of us!" We didn't even have to tell each other our intention, we all just knew. That's friendship for you.

"The Three Graces" is a statue of three of Zues's daughters- one of beauty, one of mirth, and one of elegance. To me, it symbolyzes friendship. They clasp each others arms together, a force to be reckoned with. They won't let go of each other, they won't let one fall without the others. No one can get between them, and no one can break them.

Another thing I appreciate about this sculpture is the representation of the female body, which is the true work of art. The statue does not dehumanize the women and make them twigs. They are lovely and realistic. Many of the statues were similar, showing a much truer representation of the average female body. It's sad to think how or media has dehumanized loveliness, equating beauty with sunken cheekbones and week arms.

The statue has certainly stood the test of time. Many of the nobility liked it so much that they commisioned a copy, leaving several other versions of "The Three Graces." It's technical excellence, as according to Francis Shaeffer, is without a doubt.

As for validty, the statue was created by Antonio Canova in Rome, where vestiges of Greek myth still floated.

It is not a Biblical scultpure. It potrays the myths of anothe relegion. However, if you merely look at the beauty of the art, the Glory of God can be seen. Canova did not create the human body himself, after all, but merely potrayed it.

The statue also does a good job of conveying a story. The bonds of sisterhood and friendship are evident in the sweeping planes of the carved marble.

I think that we did a pretty swell job of re-creating it ourselves.
