It wasn't so long ago I realised I was able to fly back to the UK. After a surprise and most welcome inheritance from my dear grandfather, and some help from my parents, the trip over for my cousin's wedding was suddenly achievable.
Before I had time to think, tickets were booked and the eight weeks between action and flight felt like the equivalent of thirty seconds. Maybe I'm prone to exaggeration, but here I am at Sydney Airport, wondering what essential items I've left behind again.
In true Mem style, I've resigned the same job I left in 2016, ready to take on the world as a full time writer and doula. What a turnaround! In 2016, through travel alone, I discovered that writing was a potential career path, and through the incredible support of friends and colleagues, I find myself landing on my feet yet again, albeit with some degree of uncertainty.
I've left my home and cat in excellent hands this time, and am once again so lucky to have amazing friends who step up when I need help. The cat himself is in good form, although he did attempt to hold my suitcase hostage for most of the afternoon.
For those who followed the last adventure, or those who are interested in this whirlwind trip, stay tuned: there will be food, friends, family, laughter, and one giant mountain to climb.
