Aussie Fockie 01/04/2016 - 30/04/2016

Today is the day we were able to go on a scenic flight. As a lot of people know, I have fear of flying. But that didn’t stop me to go on a scenic flight around the island. The view was amazing, I got to see Lake McKenzie from above and other lakes. First I thought I was on the right side of the plane as the other ones only could see water. But then they all started to scream that they saw a whale and some sharks, and I was like Really? Are you kidding me? I wanted to see that too!
I was in the plane with Rebecca, Amelia, Sydney and Ollie. Ollie is kind of addicted to his mobile phone and felt helpless without having reception. He found out that there was reception while we were in the sky. He just watched his phone during the whole time. Really addicted and a little bit a shame to prefer to watch his phone instead of the view.

After the scenic flight, we drove to our next stop, the shipwreck of the Maheno.

Fraser Island has claimed many ships with twenty-three wrecks were recorded in Fraser Island waters between 1856 and 1935, when the S.S. Maheno beached near The Pinnacles. The Sandy Cape light

Fraser Island

The Sandy Cape light

house was switched on in 1870 but this, and a smaller light on Woody Island, did little to alleviate the number of ships wrecked.
The Maheno - is the most famous of Fraser Island's wrecks and has become a landmark attraction. Built in 1905, the SS Maheno was one of the first turbine-driven steamers. She plied a regular route between Sydney and Auckland until she was commissioned as a hospital ship in Europe during World War One. She also served in the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.
In 1935, she and her sister ship the Oonah were sold to Japan for scrap.
The rudders of the boats were removed and they were being towed to Japan. When they reached Queensland Waters, a cyclonic storm snapped the tow chain and the Maheno drifted helplessly onto Fraser Island's ocean beach.

Third stop : Indian Head. Unfortunately, even the view is so nice, this stop does not really have a good past when it comes to the aboriginals.

Indian Head is a coastal headland on the eastern (ocean) side of Fraser Island in Queensland, Australia. The landmark is the most easterly point on the island and a popular tourist destination. Indian Head is located at one end of Seventy Five Mile Beach.
The headland was named by Captain Cook when he passed it on the evening of 19 May 1770, for the aboriginal people he saw assembled there. The term "Indian" was used at that time for the native people of many lands. The outcrop consists of rhyolite that was originally created by volcanic activity about 50 to 80 million years ago.
Camping around the headland is not permitted. Climbing Indian Head provides 360° views as well as good wildlife spotting opportunities. Such as mantarays, sharks and the kraken.

Next stop : Champaign Pools. This was so cool. The water was not that warm, but the view was amazing. We spent around one hour in the water and then went back to the car.

Last stop before heading back to our hostel : Elie Creek. This water is the purest you can find on the island, but it is FREEEEZING COLD :). We first did a little walk to another point of Elie Creek. We all had to go in the water to take a group picture. Everybody was standing so close to each other as the water was so cold. Tim promised us that we were going to see a waterfall, I was so excited, I love waterfalls! He had another interpretation of a waterfall… He went in the water as well and started to smash water to everybody. Everybody was soaked and wet. Then he said : “Here is your waterfall”. We all started laughing and walked in the water to the end of Elie Creek.
