Climbing Kilimanjaro 2017

In the beginning of Term 1 of my Economics Degree I set myself 3 goals for the first year:

1. Continue with something you are good at
2. Do something new
3. Do something for others

This Blog/Diary/Post is going to be about point 2 and 3.

It all started with my friend Daisy and me attending a presentation of the RAG (Raising and Giving) Society about a challenge which included climbing Kilimanjaro after raising 3000 pounds for the Meningitis Research Foundation. I was all up for it, because I had Meningitis as a child and in, what I until recently thought was a moment of irrationaly high self-esteem, I said that this was going to be my point 3. (do something for others).
As most of you know, the 2-3 years prior to this moment I was plagued with a serious back injury that made walking and sleeping nearly impossible and I was only able to do sports since a few weeks at that point, hence I was eager to challenge my body again and also did not want to take my physical wellbeing for granted anymore.

So I signed up...

I am not going to bore you with the whole fundraising story, but somehow, after an incredible amount of support from friends and family, streetcollections, garage sales, lawn mowing, cake sales and a London Loot, where I raised 450+ pounds alone, I smashed my target of 3000 pounds (~3500€) last July.

So what followed in the beginning of September 2017 was an incredible trip to Tanzania in order to climb the tallest free standing mountain in the world...
