chapter thirteen: Gala Night

After receiving the email tickets were available, we rushed to the register with a few people already. The posters for this evening had hung in the elevator for a couple of weeks already, so the anticipation was high. This is THE gala of Tsinghua University! Not exactly knowing what to expect we dressed up for a gala evening. To be honest, I thought it would be more like an actual ball: having a few drinks, dancing and getting to know the other international students. In reality this was one really big show! Several groups performed: dancing, singing, cultural show-offs, and even a older professor had prepared something.

The show was all woven together by 4 hosts in beautiful gowns explaining everything in both English and Chinese, with some casual (clearly rehearsed) jokes inbetween.

We were a little bit disappointed that there was no opportunity to mingle, because everyone just sat in their own seets during the show. But nonetheless it was great! Maybe a little bit too much K-pop haha! And Gonzalo also performed with the other South-Americans!

After the Gala, Ivan and I succeeded in taking PYY with us to a bar for some games of pool ánd some drinks! Since it was 2 vs. 1, the lovely house cat decided it was a good idea to join us.
