After finally getting home from Tucson I got an email from the outsourced company that manages my pre-employment physical etc. They have delayed my travel date from 3/31 to 4/7 while they review my physical and paperwork with Kinross' doctor. Seems they are concern about the lack of medical care in Nouakchott for a 69 year old woman.
Without going to deep into the drama of this, I guess I can only say that I don't understand why this is coming up now. I would have thought this concern would have been before they offered the job and started the onboarding process. I am officially an employee since today - 3/27.
I cannot control how this plays out so I am trying very hard not to stress about this (not very successfully). Add multiple time zones and countries to this equation and I would have to say I am doing pretty well.
HR for Kinross is in Toronto, Canada, outsource medical company is in Sydney, Australia, Kinross expat department is in the Canary Islands. So the emails come at all hours of the day/night. I have been told not to worry and my trip will happen next week.
Many of you know me well enough to know that I "plan" for possible scenarios. I'm trying not to do that, but to be honest, I have an alternative plan if this goes to hell.
