By Invitation Only

Nouakchott, 10/12/2017

I registered with the U.S. Embassy when I left the U.S. I get notifications about what ever is going on in Spain and Mauritania. Usually it is nothing but “warnings”. Lots about Catalonia wanting to split from Spain.

I finally got a notification that was exciting. The U.S. opened a new embassy in Nouakchott and as an American, I received an invitation to the opening ceremony. No other expats in Nouakchott wanted to go, so I got to go alone (except the security guards who took me to and from there and had to wait outside).

The new embassy property is large with a great outdoor space, so once I got through the gates I was on my own. The memory that came back was the first time I got dropped off at a mall to meet up with friends. Ha Ha. No grownups, which in Nouakchott equates to no guards.
I walked around for an hour or so and just took lots of pictures. There were nationals there representing their tribal attire as well as folks dressed in Saudi attire.
