Chapter fifteen: Deadline (2)

Beijing, THU, 12.29.2016

Christmas

As China is not a Christian country, they don't celebrate Christmas and New Year at the end of december. Instead, this week was our deadline week! Yet, as most of us come from countries were we do celebrate these holidays, we threw ourselves a christmas party, including secret santa, a self-made tree made with a bicycle wheel and pizzaaaa! ^^

Deadline

Dee and me: work, work, work...
I was responsible for the model, first time I lasercutted one! Pretty proud of it too! :) :)

The chinese lasercut machines are not as good as the ones we have in Leuven though... had some issues. But everything turned out fine. :)

PS: We had some small issues with printing. They let a lot of other (chinese) groups print before us... it took a few hours before we had our posters!! So I took Siyu with me to complain and in the end we got a 100 yuan discount. For a university print-facility they are too expensive and offer terrible quality...

Presentation

This presentation went really well! This time we got to present with posters instead of with a powerpoint presentation, and I feel this suits me a lot better. Even though I talked a bit too long, carried away by my enthousiasm, the jury seemed to like our project very much! And not only did they praise the project, they told me afterwards to keep this enthousiastic way of presenting! :)

So overall, I'm really happy with the project and with working together with Dee! :D

Big love as well for the cave: Diane, Dee, Ivan and me. <3
Lots of fun designing together and coming out on top!

Celebrating!

During the lunch break of the presentations, Betty had ordered pizza for all of us! Woohoo! :D

After the presentations we took some group pictures and went to dinner as one big group: students and professors.

There I had a nice talk with George as well, as we were going to travel to Japan in the holidays and George was one of our professors from Japan. He promised to make a list of architecture to visit, on which he delivered later! Thanks George, amazing suggestions!

Other Exams

At THU, all exams taak place around the same period, design inclusive. This means I had my Chinese language exam the day before our design presentation! This was quite hard and I didn't study as much for the exam as I would've done if the presentation were not the day after.

The same goes for the Building Energy Efficiancy course. Luckily we had already had a big group work in october and class discussions throughout the semester, so this final presentation was just a part of our grades. In the end, the one engineer (read: non architecture student) of our group did most of the work since both Neoh and I were too busy deadlining for design... :/
