Chapter three: New campus, new friends

清华大学 Tsinghua University, 09.05.2016

The last week of holidays before classes start. It was time to explore the campus! We cycled around campus, enjoyed the beautiful gardens and saw some nice traditional architecture. This campus is almost as big as Leuven! Quite similar as well: bikes everywhere (and you don't want to get stuck in the traffic jam at noon...). The weather was beautiful and the air still clean because of the G20 in China, which provided a perfect scenery.

Not only THU campus but also Beijing nightlife was waiting to be discovered. Via a friend who knew someone who knew someone I befriended my first 'promotor': because I'm a foreigner she gets me in the club for free, guestlist and free drinks!

Swimming was a bit harder than expected. The first time I went to the pool, they told me I couldn't swim without my admission notice (I didn't have my student ID yet). The second time I went to the pool they told me I couldn't swim in the deep (I didn't have a swimming licence) and when I asked to get a swimming licence they told me 'come back after 20h'. So the third time I went to the pool I swam 200m to prove I could swim. Result: I can finally swim in the deep end!

Unfortunately there were also some official things to take care of: registration day, apply for a chinese bank card, course selection and the official student welcome.

At the end of the week I got into contact with my fellow classmates of architecture. Two of them live outside the campus and their housewarming was the perfect opportunity to get to know everyone! Of course this was followed by an amazing - and again, completely free - party in WuDaoKou! :)
