Today, we are leaving Montgomery, Alabama and are heading to Fort Sumter, South Carolina. We traveled a total of 436 miles. The gas cost $2.05 per gallon, a total of $22.55. Here, at Fort Sumter, we visited the USS Yorktown. We learned that: (1) The USS Yorktown is an Aircraft Carrier used in World War Two, (2) It was launched on April 4, 1934, (3) Finally sunk on June 7, 1942. It had the capacity to sustain 90 aircraft. It's just a boat. Finally, we took the super expensive trip to Fort Sumter National Monument, equivalent to 1 ticket to Disneyland. Vanessa, "Facts about Fort Sumter: (1) It's most famous for being the site of the firs shots of the Civil War (1861-1865), (2) It was named after a revolutionary war general from South Carolina, named General Thomas Sumter, (3) In 1948, Fort Sumter was decommissioned as a military post and turned over to the National Park Service. It now attracts over 750,000 visitors every year." Inside, we visited the Fort Sumter Exhibit. In there, we saw a small replica of the actual fort in all its greatness. Secondly, we visited the Visitor Education Center.
Carlos, "Learning about what started the Civil War is very interesting, but we don't have time for this." So, we took the ferry back to the opposite side of the shore, to the West. On the way to our hotel, we found a small starving child, who we later found out was Gaby. The hotel cost us $82. Today, we spent a total of $221.55, leaving us with a remaining budget of $2,742.29.
