15 - Alan's visit - day 1

Reykjavík, 06.02.2019

Dear readers,

The day has finally come that the person who I've missed the most is coming to visit me!

The evening Alan arrived I had already decided what the first thing we would do was going to be - eat burgers! We went to a place called 'Bike cave'. My uni friend Nina also joined us! I had never been here before but after trying it out I can definitely recommend it! It's a little out of town (20-25 min walk), but this also makes the food a lot cheaper! You pay between 1000 and 2500 Icelandic Kronan for a home-made burger, and they have a lot of choice! I had a veggie burger and Alan and Nina a classic one. They both tasted só good! I knew straight away I would have to come back to this place. The reason this place is called 'Bike cave' is because, if you bring your

bike, they will fix it up while you're enjoying a burger. I love this concept!

After the burgers we walked to the student cellar of my university (10 minutes from the burger place), to have some drinks with my uni friends. Alan didn't have time to relax after his flight haha! I really wanted them to meet each other. It was fun, we talked for quite a while and the ambiance was great! At around 10 we left to go back home.

The next day we decided to have a nice and relaxing day in Reykjavík. The weather was absolutely stunning! We were hoping to go to the top of the Hallgrímskirkja to see the view of Reykajvík, but sadly it was closed due to maintenance. This didn't spoil the fun, as there is much more to see in this cozy city. We got a hotdog at the famous 'Baejarins Beztu Pylsur'. This place is popular in Reykjavík

as Bill Clinton has also eaten a hotdog here. After finishing our hotdog we decided to take a walk along the sea. We stopped to take some photos of the 'Sun Vogager' with my new camera. I finally have a good camera now! (A Nikon d40x), so I will be able to take better quality photos, which I am very enthusiastic about! After strolling around, we walked past the concert hall named 'Harpa' and decided to sit inside to take some rest. It's a beautiful glass building and the views from here are stunning. You can see the famous 'Esja' mountain from here and if your planning a trip to Reyjavík, this site really can't be missed.

Time had flown and I found out that there was a light festival going on this weekend. Tonight was our only opportunity to visit it so we decided to take a look! Some Erasmus friends also came along and we enjoyed strolling around town to look at the impressive light shows on and in the most famous buildings in Reykjavík! We especially enjoyed the light show on the Hallgrímskirkja, it was super impressive and the lights moved to the melody of the music. Also, there was a group of people dressed up as Vikings. They were walking around with huge flares and singing songs, making the night feel extra special.

After the lightfestival we went home for some pizza. We were already excited about the next day as we were going to go on our first road trip together! Woohoo!
