Getting Ready for the Trip

Madison, Wisconsin

Jordan and Egypt - an OAT trip that I signed up for two years ago. Finally travel there has resumed and I am looking forward to exploring ancient sites, driving through the countryside of Jordan, exploring and experiencing life along the NIle in Egypt. I've been reading guidebooks and maps, learned about the most famous pharaohs in a Great Courses class, purchased a new suitcase to replace my old standby, ordered FFP2 masks from Amazon as they are a requirement for museums and more in Egypt. Both trip leaders -- Nader in Jordan and Waleen in Egypt -- emailed me with useful information including details of COVID test requirements and the

advice to bring a stack of American small bills to use for tips and miscellaneous expenses. Waleen called on Wednesday to provide additional details and to see if I had questions.

Thursday, November 18: Paperwork today included filling out the Jordan travel document including digital copy of the vaccine card. I now have the official paper allowing me to enter the Amman airport where I will need to show a collection of documents including COVID-test results and proof of medical insurance. Once I pass the health check there OAT will have someone at the airport to assist with getting a visa and luggage. Also drove to the JangoDX lab to take the PCR test. Snow in the air today - winter begins in Wisconsin.

Friday, November 19: Required travel documents uploaded to Lufthansa Airlines web site. Jordan Health Declaration filled out and printed.

Saturday: COVID test results finally appeared in my email around 3:00 pm to my relief as I was getting nervous it wouldn't come in time. The all-important negative PCR results. I'm packed though it took some time to figure out where items should go in my new suitcase. Delicious dinner at Peggy & Russ's was appreciated, especially as my refrigerator is empty. So I'm ready to go.
