Cruising on the Amunet

Leaving the.hotel at 8:30, we drove back north on the Desert Highway to New Aswan which is a new city built across the river from Aswan.

We boarded our dahabeya Amunet, a beautiful 16-passenger ship built by OAT and delivered this year. The ship is 164 feet long and has a flat bottom. It is towed by a tug boat 120 yards ahead but is steered from the top deck.

This is luxury and comfort supreme. Cabins on the lower floor have two beds, closet, chair, dressing table, end tables, full bathroom and two huge windows. The second floor is half enclosed with dining area, bar, and comfortable couches. The other half is covered but open air tables, chairs. The upper floor is a sun deck plus the sail used as a rudder. Excellent food and drinks, someone on the crew is always there to help you.

We cruised upriver until 4:00 pm, then moored at a grassy island for some to swim. We stayed here all night. No moon but lots of stars.
